Finance Division protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firm's books and records, and by contributing to Firmwide risk management and risk reduction.

The division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley's various industry and government regulators; and serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as advisor to the Firm’s various businesses and its senior management team.

Japan Finance is a critical component of the Firm’s global footprint. We advise and partner with the business units and Firm management in the region by providing review, analysis, and advisory services. Our clients include Sales & Trading desk, financial regulators, and management.

What We Do
Here are job descriptions for two of our main teams:
Institutional Securities Group (ISG) Finance
As product controllers, we support ISG business units by:

  • Guardianship: Ensures accuracy of the business unit’s books and records
  • Resource Management: Monitoring limits and maximizing efficiency of financial and capital resources
  • Trusted Advisor/Partner: Providing management reporting and analytics to the business unit’s management teams, including budgeting, forecasting, and profitability


Global Corporate Controllers and Planning (GCCP)

GCCP is responsible for financial and regulatory reporting of consolidated Firm and its legal entities, accounting and regulatory policy and advisory, controllership of the Firm’s infrastructure areas and management of the Finance risk and change programs.

It covers the following functions:

  • Policy and Corporate Financial Reporting
  • Regulatory and Consolidation Controllers
  • Legal Entity Controllers
  • Finance and Risk Assurance
  • Infrastructure Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Change/Architecture

What We Require

  • You are due to graduate between September 2025 and September 2026, either from an overseas university or a university in Japan (all majors are encouraged to apply).
  • You are interested in financial services (understanding of financial markets and products is a plus)
  • You have strong technical and quantitative skills, the ability to multi-task in high-paced environment
  • You have a keen ability to collaborate and build relationships with a wider team
  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills, and can adapt to your audience
  • You are fluent in English and have at least intermediate Japanese proficiency
