Morgan Stanley’s Investment Banking Division (IBD) provides industry, regional and product expertise to corporations, institutions and government clients in order to advise our clients on strategic and financing matters. These solutions include initial public offerings; public and private equity and equity-linked financings; mergers, acquisitions and restructurings; defense advisory assignments; strategic partnerships; public and private debt placements; share repurchases; hedging, swaps and derivative transactions.

Role summary

  • This is a highly dynamic, fast-paced role with global impact across the Investment Banking Division.
  • Strats are embedded within banking teams and provide quantitative analysis, data-driven insights, and customized tools to deliver bespoke solutions to stakeholders.
  • We are looking for self-motivated individuals with combined UX designer and engineering skills to build web applications, dashboards and generate visualizations for IBD globally.
  • The successful candidate would work alongside the IT team, other strats, and senior management while being fully immersed with bankers to understand pain points and opportunities.

What you'll do in the role

  • Build and maintain software, tools and dashboards to streamline and enhance efficiency in client pitches, transaction execution, and reporting.
  • Use your creativity to design intuitive and polished user interfaces that provide seamless features to users.
  • Analyze and interpret business requirements to proactively identify opportunities and improvement areas.
  • Communicate and manage strategic projects for senior bankers and leadership across regions, industry groups, and product teams. Serve as a liaison between business and IT to project manage and deliver innovative solutions for investment banking.
  • Gain expertise in investment banking processes and financial products to inform decision-making related to the responsibilities listed above.

What you'll bring to the role

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in quantitative field such as Mathematics, Computer Science/Engineering or Finance/Economics with software development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in front-end development technologies, including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like Angular or React.
  • Competence with SQL/NoSQL databases.
  • A drive to design clean and intuitive user interfaces.
  • Interested in financial concepts, including valuation, capital structure and M&A.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Be accurate, paying careful attention to detail and working thoughtfully and independently.
