| ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Tutoring: - Assist students with homework assignments, test preparation, and project work.
- Adapt tutoring methods to meet the individual learning needs and styles of students
- Tutors must foster a culture of engagement with students that welcomes opportunities outside of scheduled hours to aid in learning opportunities.
- Online availability for tutoring sessions
- In-person 4 hours one day weekly to host tutoring hours.
- Availability weekly for exam reviews, essays, and 1-on-1 tutoring sessions.
Student Support: - Encourage and motivate students to build confidence in their writing abilities.
- Track and assess student progress, providing feedback to students on their performance.
- Identify areas where students may need additional support and work to address those needs.
Collaboration: - Work closely with other tutors and instructors to ensure consistency in teaching methods and support.
- Share resources and best practices with colleagues to improve the overall effectiveness of the tutoring program.
Administrative Tasks: - Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions.
- Being prompt when you are scheduled to tutor.
- Balancing multiple students or sessions efficiently.
- Respecting student privacy and academic integrity is important.
MENTORING: - Listen to, advocate for, and build positive working relationships with students.
- Refer students to appropriate university resources.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications: - Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Adaptability: adjusting methods and materials to suit each student's needs is important. Using various approaches (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) as needed.
- Paying close attention to what students are saying (and not saying).
- Asking clarifying questions to ensure understanding.
- Experience:
- Prior tutoring experience preferred but not required.
- Experience with educational software and tools is a plus.
- Other Requirements:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if needed.

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to move around campus, to include the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 - 20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, type and perform data entry, visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information, ability to hear to answer telephones and to communicate verbally, and the ability to sit for extended periods of time. |
