Under the direct supervision of the Director of Residence Life, (DRL) the Residence Director (RD) is responsible for the housing operations of the residence hall facilities and the direct supervision of the Resident Assistants (RAs) in his/her assigned residence hall. The Residence Director will utilize and develop skills in staff supervision, administration, interpersonal communication, management, mediation, and program development while maintaining the spirit of Ex Corde Ecclesiae. The Residence Director, along with the support of his/her staff of Resident Assistants, is responsible for promoting Christ-centered spiritual growth in the residence halls.

General Responsibilities

• Provide on-going supervision, support, and evaluation for the Resident Assistants.
• Serve as a strong Catholic role model for the students and the community.
• Develop and execute Standard Work as it relates to availability to the students, resident hall operations, university code of conduct policies, community development, mentoring/advising, spiritual life, staff supervision and Emergency Management.
• Participate in Office Hours and 24/7 On-Call Rotations weekly.
• Develop and participate in Lean daily, weekly and monthly management tools with the Director of Residence Life.
• Participate in Selective Mission-minded recruitment, leadership, and development of Resident Assistants (RA).
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned by the DRL, Assistant Director of Residence Life (ADRL), Chief Operational Officer (COO), or the Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA).
• Assist the DRL and Assistant Director of Residence Life (ADRL) in departmental organization, long term sustainability of departmental processes, and RD professional development practices.
• Manage departmental budget under the supervision of the DRL.
• Support internal and cross departmental initiatives (i.e., Housing Operations, Academics, Security, Athletics, Facilities, Student Life, etc.) to the ensure quality meaningful student experiences.

Residence Hall Operations

• Coordinate opening/closing of residence halls, room condition reports, and facilitate regular room inspections of assigned residence halls.
• Continuously improve on the identification, reporting and follow-up of facilities related issues in the residence halls.

University Code of Conduct Enforcement

• Clearly communicate, interpret, and enforce University policies to faculty, staff, and students.
• Have a thorough knowledge of the Student Code of Conduct and University Handbook.
• Ensure Resident Assistant (RA) staff members are appropriately enforcing and documenting behavior issues and concerns.
• Track incident data, review all incident reports; consult and follow-up on incident reports as needed/assigned by the DRL.

Community Development & Programing

• Under the direction of the DRL and Director of Student Life (DSL) assist all aspects of residential life programming, as well as assigned campus-wide events and programs. (i.e. Dorm Wars, etc.)
• Assist the DSL, Campus Ministry, and Academic Affairs with organizing, chaperoning, cleanup and reporting of a minimum of 8 (approx. 4 fall/4spring) events each year including Dorm Wars.
• Assist the DSL and the DRL over the summer with new student/transfer orientation preparation.
• Increase visibility to the student body by regularly attending campus events (i.e. home sport games, Student Life events, plays, etc.) each semester.
• When possible, work with the Mother Teresa Project to organize and lead service projects for students throughout the academic year.

Student development: Mentoring & Advising

• Serve as a leader, mentor, as well as spiritual Shepard in the residence halls, supporting residents during daily life, celebration, and times of crisis.
• Seek out individual ministry with residents through being involved, available, and approachable, showing concern, listening, and praying for/with them.
• Be responsive to students’ spiritual, emotional, personal, and academic needs; advising and making appropriate referrals to campus resources. (i.e. Academic support, Behavioral Intervention Team, counseling, spiritual support)

Emergency Management

• Respond to and be available to assist as needed other University staff in emergency situations appropriately as essential personal. (i.e. physical safety threats, building floods, hurricanes etc.)
• Assist Security in the evacuation of residence halls during fire drills, and emergencies.
• Attend to the health and safety of residents in medical, psychological, and other crisis or emergency situations.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree Required.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of, 1-2 years of Residence Life or Ministry Experience Preferred.

CERTIFICATION: CPR First & First Aid Preferred

Microsoft Office experience with Word, Outlook, Publisher, Excel, Power Point software experience.

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 - 20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, type and perform data entry, visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information, ability to hear in order to answer telephones and to communicate verbally, and the ability to sit for extended periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Most work is performed indoors with minimal safety hazards, and requires seated, standing, and movement work. Some work is outside in the elements and can include working during hazardous conditions, hurricanes or floods etc.
